The Floyd Memorial Library was chartered in 1907. The stone building was donated by Grace Floyd in honor of her father, David Gelston Floyd, in 1917. In July of 1997, after approval by the voters, ground was broken for a 1.3 million dollar expansion. The library dedication was held on May 22, 1999 and since then we have hosted many concerts, adult and children’s programs, and numerous activities. Floyd Memorial Library serves Orient, East Marion, and Greenport residents and tax-payers. We welcome card holders from all Suffolk county libraries. All visitors are welcome to in-library use of materials, computers and services.

Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library is a group of volunteers that supports the library by raising money for items and programs which enhance the quality and significance of our library. We fund special programs, such as the Children’s Bookmark Contest, trips, and educational material through membership dues, the Harvest Fair, and the Book Nook. We invite you to join our organization by filling out a membership application which is available at the Circulation Desk. The Friends meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 pm. There are no meetings in January and February. We hope you’ll join us.
Make a Difference
Floyd Memorial Library is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, supported in major part by the tax dollars of the residents of Greenport, East Marion and Orient. We gladly accept donations in memory of, or in honor of, your friends or relatives. We will dedicate a book to that purpose.
We also have a building fund, a collection of books in memory of a young patron who is no longer with us, and several other funds for which we accept donations.
