About the Local History Room

The Floyd Memorial Library Local History Room has been an integral part of the library since its establishment with the donation of the current stone building by Grace Floyd in 1917. It was stated in the agreement that the library must have a local history room to preserve the history of the area for years to come.

The department is dedicated to collecting, promoting, and preserving the local history in the Greenport region. The collection consists of books, postcards, photographs, maps, audio visual material, pamphlets, scrapbooks, yearbooks, file folders of deeds and other Greenport-related documents.

Use of the Local History Room

Materials in the Local History Room may be used by members of the public; however, in order to maintain the safety and integrity of the collection, collection materials may only be accessed under the supervision of a library staff member.  Food and drink (including water) are not permitted in the Local History Room under any circumstances.

The area is open by appointment, please call 631-477-0660 ext 103.  Email requests may be sent to: christopher@floydmemoriallibrary.org.
